Power supply models and serials

Q: I have a failed power supply, but I do not know the model and serial. How do I obtain this information?

A: If you have redundant power supplies in your chassis, you can obtain the model and serial by querying the power backplane that manages them.

First, download a copy of IPMICFG, and save it to the local operating system. Then run the following command:

  • ipmicfg -pminfo | grep Number

This should show both the model and serial of both of the connected power supplies. If you're not sure which is the failed power supply, run the command again without any options:

  • ipmicfg -pminfo

The failed power supply will likely report 0's for voltage and current readings, and may also report "[UNIT IS OFF]" under Status. Example:
